How the ID app works

You receive a request via SMS or email from LexisNexis® Risk Solutions on behalf of the business you're dealing with, asking you to complete an identity check. This includes a unique registration code and a link to download the LexisNexis Risk Solutions ID App.

Install the app and log in using your unique registration code.

Take a selfie and complete a liveness check to verify you are a real and present person.

The ID app ensures documents are captured securely and performs checks to make sure the image quality is sufficient. If necessary, the app will guide you through re-capturing documents, to assure the result.

On completion of all required steps, you will receive an acknowledgement that all details have been submitted.

Hints and Tips


Use as much natural light as possible when taking your photos, both your selfies and those of your documents.

Try your best to reduce glare and avoid extreme variations in light as much as possible.

When taking pictures of your documents, make sure that you can see all four corners and that no part is obscured.

Make sure the document is as flat as possible and oriented correctly to your device’s camera.

Device Questions

The app can be installed on most Apple or Android devices, meaning the app is accessible on around 96% of all phones (subject to operating restrictions).

Yes, the app can be installed on a tablet that meets the operating system requirements. However, as the app is optimised for smart phones, it will not scale to fit larger devices.

No, the app is only accessible via a mobile device.

As the registration code is unique to you and your app, you are able to use any mobile device that meets the system requirements even if it does not belong to you.

Access Questions

The code is valid for 7 days after it is generated. Most users complete their verification within 24 hours of the code being issued.

The technology underpinning the app is able to determine the origin of a device by using a variety of factors. For example, if you are a UK national currently outside the UK on holiday, you will still be able to use the app.

The app is designed to help you verify your identity to your vendor in an easy and straightforward manner. If you don’t wish to use the app, however, you will need to return to your vendor and check what alternative arrangements they have for verification of identity.

Document Questions

The documents required to complete may differ from business to business, the easiest way to check is to select the ‘Scan ID Documents’ step in the app, this will show you the options available. Most business will require either a passport or driving license. If you do not have either of these, you’ll need to get in contact with the business we’re operating on behalf of, who will be able to supply you with alternatives.

The app will record your progress, allowing you to continue at a later point. You will need to re-enter your unique code to resume the process.

We are unable to use out of date documents as part of the verification process. If you don’t have any valid identity documents, please contact the vendor that has supplied you with your registration code for advice on how to proceed.

Selfie Questions

It is ok to wear normal clear glasses, but any sunglasses must be removed as these may obscure parts of your face.

Anything that covers the facial features (mouth, nose, eyes and ears) may affect the success of biometric checks. To get the best results, remove any attire that covers these features before taking your selfies.

It’s best to keep a neutral face whilst taking your selfies.

Our biometrics are sophisticated enough to handle changes in things like hairstyle, facial hair, make-up, weight, and age (within a reasonable range).

Security and Data Questions

The app only collects the information required for the verification process and submits it for processing. The mobile application does not store any information relating to you.
